Driver Killed In Woodland Hills Collision With Big Rig: CHP

A vehicle was lodged under a semi truck after colliding with it at high speeds, spurring closure of the 101 freeway Wednesday morning.

WOODLAND HILLS, CA — A driver died after colliding with a big rig in Woodland Hills early Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The crash, reported around 12:30 a.m. forced the closure of Highway 101's northbound lanes near Shoup Avenue for several hours, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Arriving CHP officers reported that the crash sent debris across all lanes of the freeway. Initial reports indicated that the vehicle was traveling at high speeds of 85 to 90 mph before it made impact.

A SigAlert was issued around 12:50 a.m. and traffic was diverted to De Soto, Canoga and Topanga Canyon, according to CHP's traffic incident log.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No other details were immediately available.
