LOS ANGELES, CA — The rapper formerly known as Kanye West has asked a judge to dismiss a lawsuit brought by a former employee of the school founded by West.

Attorneys for West, who now goes by Ye, and his Donda Academy argue that plaintiff Isaiah Meadows' claim is outside of the statute of limitations. Meadows, a former assistant principal, claims breach of contract and state Labor Code violations in his suit.

Meadows was hired in August 2020 as an assistant principal at Yeezy Christian Academy, the predecessor of the Donda Academy. He said he repeatedly complained about safety issues at the Simi Valley school, according to his July 6 suit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Among the issues Meadows claims: Because Ye did not like glass, a broken skylight at the school was not replaced, allowing rain to soak the floor and cause a mold odor. Additionally, he claims the building had exposed telephone and electrical wiring.

Meadows also claims he had to pay $60,000 of his own money to lease a home in Calabasas because Ye did not fulfill his promise to pay for the educator's rent.

Meadows worked as assistant principal, a physical education teacher and also taught faith in the mornings. He was fired before school started in 2022 without explanation, the suit claims.

Meadows' lead attorney, Ronald Zambrano, also represents the three other former teachers suing the singer and the school as well as three former Lizzo dancers who have accused the singer of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment.

“We are aware of the response to Mr. Meadows’ lawsuit filed by Ye and his attorneys this week. It changes nothing. We stand by our case and the allegations contained in the complaint and are looking forward to taking this to trial," Zambrano said in a statement.
