Many Are Buzzing About Opening of Café/Bike Shop Pedaler's Fork

The LA Weekly visits the new establishment in Calabasas for a feature story.

The hipster-focused LA Weekly doesn't get out to Calabasas too often. A search of the alternative newspaper's website shows the last time a reporter visited the city was in July of 2012 for a profile of System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian, who is a resident.

But the paper couldn't resist the buzz surrounding Pedaler's Fork, a farm-to-table restaurant with a coffee café and a boutique bike shop, which opened Monday morning in Old Town at 23504 Calabasas Road. The establishment has been in the works since 2011, and its unique concept has many local residents as well as bikers from around the greater Los Angeles area curious.

After some construction delays, the space is finally complete, offering a dazzling, airy interior with reclaimed bricks, high ceilings accented with refurbished wood beams and, hanging throughout, vintage bicycles. Outside there's patio dining beside a picturesque creek and lots of greenery. With seating for 210, the restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week.

Anticipation of the opening has been growing.

"We are getting a lot of calls from people asking when are we opening," said co-owner Tim Rettele to Patch last week. "I'm expecting a line at the door."

Check back later this week for more on the opening of Pedaler's Fork.
