Pool Hours Reduced Again At Tennis & Swim Center For Staff Shortages

The Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center pool will reduce its hours for a second time amid lifeguard shortages.

CALABASAS, CA — The Calabasas Tennis & Swim Center reduced its pool hours for a second time amid lifeguard shortages, the city said in a tweet.

The pool and entire pool area will close at 5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and at 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These changes will start on Tuesday.

Starting Saturday, the pool will close at 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays. The pool will be completely closed for repairs from May 30 to June 3.

Cities across the country are shutting public pools amid lifeguard shortages heading into the summer. At least one-third of public pools are at risk of shutting completely or changing hours this summer, the American Lifeguard Association told NewsWeek.

The staffing shortages are prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic and affected cities in May 2021 as well.
