1. A year of achievement at SDSU: 2025 in review (sdsu.edu) — Calexico is set to gain new student housing next fall through a joint SDSU Imperial Valley and Imperial Valley College project adding 40 rooms in the city. The broader SDSU year-in-review highlights record enrollment, major research grants including one targeting Imperial Valley’s extreme heat, campus expansions, and new programs that could bring more students, investment, and services to the region.
   

2. Mexican Consulate, El Centro team up to bring Juarez artist's Retrospective to Imperial Valley (ivpressonline.com) — Calexico residents are helping power a major cross-border art exhibit, as the Mexican Consulate in Calexico partners with El Centro to showcase Ciudad Juárez artist Antonio Muñoz’s colorful retrospective at the Old Post Office Pavilion through December and January. The show supports downtown El Centro’s arts hub revitalization while highlighting the cultural ties that link Imperial Valley and border communities.
   

3. Jeff Gonzalez hosts Holiday open house in Brawley (ivpressonline.com) — Calexico residents were among those who traveled to Brawley for Assemblymember Jeff Gonzalez’s holiday open house, highlighting regional ties across Imperial Valley. Guests shared what they cherish about the season, from family time and community service to calls for unity, civil dialogue, and standing against bigotry, as local political and civic figures mingled in a festive setting.
   

4. Trail blazing duo make history (thedesertreview.com) — Families with ties to Calexico will recognize the Munguia brothers, whose father teaches at Calexico High while they blaze an academic trail at Central Union High in El Centro. Using dual and concurrent enrollment with Imperial Valley College, Noah is earning an associate degree as a junior and Edward is on track to finish even earlier, showing local students what’s possible.
