Caltrain Derailment Causes Systemwide Delays

The last car of the southbound train #324 went off the tracks near the San Jose Didiron Station, backing up train traffic.

SAN JOSE, CA — The last car of Caltrain's No. 324 derailed near San Jose's busy Diridon Station at 9:05 a.m. Monday, prompting delays throughout the system and route.

No injuries were reported, and no damage was done along the tracks, Caltrain spokesman Dan Lieberman told Patch. The car has since been placed on the tracks.

Nonetheless, the mere derailment backed up the entire Peninsula rail system on both the south- and northbound sides — with delays as long as a little over an hour, Lieberman added.
