Campbell's Jim Free Named Veteran of the Year
The Campbell Veterans Memorial Foundation Chairman was selected to represent Assembly District 28.
Campbell's very own Jim Free was honored in Sacramento Wednesday as the Assembly District 28's Veteran of the Year.
"I was pretty humbled by it all," Free says. "There’s nothing very special about this veteran but to be honored in this way was real special."
Assemblyman Paul Fong presented the Campbell Veterans Memorial Foundation Chairman with the award at the sixth annual Veterans Recognition luncheon.
Free ate lunch with Fong and listened while introductions of other recipients were made.
"Some of these veterans go all the way back to World War II, some were Pearl Harbor survivors, all the way up to those from Iraq and Afghanistan," Free says. "Just being in the room with these men and women was pretty amazing."

Each year, assembly members are asked by the Assembly Committee on Veterans Affairs and the California State Council of the Vietnam Veterans of America to select one veteran in their district to be honored.
“It is an honor to recognize the veterans in my district who have bravely served our country,” Fong said in a release. “I commend Seaman Jim Free for his military service and for his continued service to our community.”
