CHP Officer Among 2 Injured In South Bay Freeway Crash

The officer and a Monterey County woman were both taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center with unspecified injuries, the CHP said.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — A California Highway Patrol officer was among two people injured Tuesday afternoon in a South Bay freeway crash, the agency said.

The officer and a Monterey County woman were both taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center with unspecified injuries, the CHP said.

The San José CHP officer had just cleared a Highway 17 crash on the northbound lanes and was returning to his vehicle at around 12:35 p.m. Tuesday when the 39-year-old Salinas woman driving a Lexus lost control of her, spun out, and struck the officer, the agency said.

Investigators have not yet determined what caused the woman to lose control of her vehicle.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the crash, according to the CHP.

The woman remained at the scene.

The Officer suffered several injuries and was transported to a local area hospital.

The driver of the Lexus was also transported for complaints of pain.

Highway 17 northbound was shut down at Summit Rd. to facilitate the on-scene investigation, the CHP said.
