Falling Tree Injures South Bay Cop

SAN JOSÉ, CA — A San José police officer was injured by a falling tree Thursday morning, authorities said.
The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred at around 10:55 a.m. during a powerful storm.

The officer at around 10:08 responded to a traffic accident on Highway 17 (south of Interstate 280), according to the CHP.
The officer, who was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, was awake and alert, according to the CHP.

There were no other injuries or property damage associated with the falling tree, according to the CHP.
A “bomb cyclone”- fueled storm has killed at least two people including a toddler and caused widespread flooding and property damage throughout the Bay Area.
Winds associated with the storm topped out at 85 mph in Marin County.
The National Weather Service forecast for the greater San Francisco Bay Area calls for thunderstorms and heavy rain Thursday. Daytime highs are expected in the 50s and overnight lows in the 40s, with wind gusts easing off to 25-30 mph.
Another weather system is projected to bring additional rain and periods of stronger winds this weekend and next week.
