Fatal South Bay Freeway Crash Under Investigation
The crash occurred about 12:59 a.m. Saturday in rainy conditions just south of the East Brokaw Road off-ramp, according to the CHP.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — A man died early Saturday after his vehicle crashed on northbound U.S. Highway 101 and rolled over multiple times near the airport in San Jose, according to a report released Tuesday by the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred about 12:59 a.m. in rainy conditions just south of the East Brokaw Road off-ramp, according to the CHP report.
For an unknown reason, the driver — whose identity was not released — made an unsafe turning movement to the right, causing his 2020 Toyota Camry to veer right and collide with a 2023 Tesla Model Y travelling in the same direction and continue out of control in a northeasterly direction, the CHP reported.

The Toyota collided with a wooden traffic sign pole and a metal light pole, continuing across the northbound North First Street on-ramp and down a dirt and grass embankment before rolling an unknown number of times and coming to rest on its wheels.
The San Jose Fire Department arrived on scene and declared the driver of the Toyota dead at about 1:27 a.m.

The 45-year-old San Carlos man driving the Tesla was uninjured.
The CHP reports that alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash and urges anyone with information about it to contact CHP San Jose office at (408) 961-0900.
