Fatal South Bay Hit-And-Run Suspect Sought

SAN JOSÉ, CA — A bicyclist was killed in a South Bay hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning, authorities said.

The driver of the first vehicle fled the scene, and the driver of a second vehicle that subsequently struck the bicyclist remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

Officers at around 12:50 a.m. responded to the area of Senter Road and Story Road on the report of a traffic collision involving two vehicles and a bicyclist, police said.

A preliminary investigation determined the bicyclist was riding northbound on Senter Road when he was initially struck by a sedan also headed northbound in the No. 3 lane, police said.

The bicyclist was down in the roadway when a second collision occurred involving a 2012 GMC sports utility vehicle, police said.

The bicyclist sustained major injuries and was declared dead at the scene, police said.

“The driver and vehicle involved in the first collision were not located or identified,” police said in a statement.

“The investigation is on-going.”

This is San José’s 52nd fatal collision and the 54th traffic death of 2022.
