Fireworks SJ Garage Explosion Hurts 2 Men, One Arrested

The two men were transported to the hospital from the scene located on Moonflower Court near San Felipe Road. One was arrested.

SAN JOSE, CA -- Stored fireworks appear to be the cause of a garage explosion Sunday afternoon in southeastern San Jose in which two men were hospitalized and one arrested, police said.

Police responded about 3:09 p.m. Sunday to a house in the 4100 block of Moonflower Court, a few blocks east of San Felipe Road, to a report of an explosion in the garage there. Two men were taken to a local hospital, one of them with life-threatening injuries, police Sgt. Enrique Garcia. One man was at first considered to have suffered life-threatening injuries, but Garcia said both men's injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

John Meltzer was released from the hospital and arrested Monday by San Jose police for possession of a destructive device. The second man remains in the hospital Monday afternoon.
