Free VTA Rides April 25 For Those Who Get On Board

It's National Get On Board Day, a time to massively make a concerted effort to support public transportation.

SAN JOSE, CA — The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority wants everyone to "get on board" public transportation in a big way.

The Silicon Valley transit agency has joined Santa Clara County, Silicon Valley Leadership Group, Silicon Valley Organization and more than 40 San Francisco Bay Area employers who are taking the pledge to spur ridership in public transportation.

Led by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), Get on Board Day is a national advocacy event focused on generating awareness in public transportation.

Every $1 spent on public transportation generates $4 in economic returns. Plus, 87 percent of the trips taken on transit directly benefit the economy by getting people to work and connecting them to local businesses, VTA sites.

To celebrate the many economic and environmental benefits of public transportation and encourage ridership, VTA will:

  • Recognize local businesses that have pledged to reduce solo driving with a specially wrapped VTA bus and light rail train featuring their logos
  • Offer free rides on all VTA buses and light rail on April 25.
