Gun Owners Face $1K Fine For Flouting South Bay City Mandate: Report
Gun rights activists assailed the measure, and at least one organized group said it is suing the city, the report said.
SAN JOSÉ, CA — San José gun owners will now face a $1,000 fine for failing to comply with the city’s new insurance and fee requirements, The Mercury News reports.
The South Bay city earlier this year approved the nation’s first such requirement, and the San José City Council on Tuesday approved the fines that figure to give the law some teeth, according to the report.
Mayor Sam Liccardo spearheaded the effort to bring tough gun ownership requirements to the city to help cover the costs to the community of gun violence, estimated to cost Santa Clara County $72 million each year, The Mercury News reports.
