Heart Attack Killed Big-Rig Driver In South Bay Crash: Coroner

CUPERTINO, CA — The driver of a big-rig involved in a South Bay solo-vehicle crash earlier this year died of a heart attack, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office said.

Gregory Olguin, 57 of Sunnyvale, was identified as the driver by the county’s Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.

The crash occurred around 6:35 a.m. June 20 in the 1000 block of Stevens Canyon Road in the city of Cupertino, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The driver pronounced deceased at the scene by the Santa Clara County Fire Department.

Due to the severity of the collision, the Sheriff Office’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Specialist Team (STARS) took over the investigation.

“STARS investigators determined the driver suffered a fatal medical event while operating the vehicle,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

“Speed was not a contributing factor in this accident and investigators did not locate mechanical problems with the truck.”
