SAN JOSE, CA — A 32-year-old San Jose man was arrested Monday on suspicion of robbing and kidnapping an 81-year-old woman pushed into a closet, the San Jose Police Department reported.
The call initially came in as a burglary in the 2600 block of Agua Vista Drive at about 8:20 a.m. in San Jose. The victim was leaving her home through the front door when the suspect identified as Derico Montez Jones pushed the woman back inside, took her jewelry and forced her into a closet, according to police. The woman suffered only minor injuries, and Jones apparently left the
area before officers arrived.
Patrol officers canvassed the area for evidence and obtained video footage of the suspect. Robbery detectives created a flyer and circulated it to patrol officers. At about 1:30 p.m., Sgt. Todd Jennings located the suspect walking near East Santa Clara and S. First streets in San Jose. The suspect was taken into custody and booked into Santa Clara County Jail for robbery, kidnapping and elder abuse, police added.
