Overpass Male Jumper Closed SB Highway 101 At 10th St. In SJ: CHP

The man was hit by several vehicles, none of which stopped as witnesses, CHP reported. Now it needs public assistance for the investigation.

SAN JOSE, CA — The southbound side of U.S. Highway 101 was closed in San Jose after a man leaped off an overpass Tuesday morning and died after being hit by multiple cars on the highway, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The traffic was diverted onto Interstate 880. None of the motorists in the vehicles that struck the man's body stopped to be declared as witnesses, CHP San Jose spokesman Ross Lee told Patch.

"We have no witnesses, except (for) the people on 10th Street," Lee said.

The CHP would like more people to come forward to assist in the investigation. Those who have information to add are being asked to call the CHP station at 408-467-5400.

The man apparently climbed over the chain link fence on the street as San Jose Police officers were pulling up to him during the 10:23 a.m. incident.
