Pedestrian, Cyclist Killed In 2 San Jose Crashes

Police in San Jose recorded the city's 32nd and 33rd traffic deaths of the year after two separate crashes Sunday.

SAN JOSE, CA — A pedestrian and cyclist were killed in separate crashes Sunday in San Jose, making for the city's 32nd and 33rd traffic fatalities of the year, according to the police department.

In the first crash, police said a man driving a pickup southbound on Jackson Avenue hit a cyclist who was heading north and veered into the opposing lane. Medics rushed the cyclist to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later. Police said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

On Sunday evening, police said a man driving a sedan northbound on Snell Avenue was crossing the Capitol Expressway intersection with a green light when he hit a woman crossing Snell Avenue in a crosswalk. The woman was taken to the hospital and was later pronounced dead. Police said the driver in that case also remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators. The woman was the 12th pedestrian killed in a traffic incident this year.

The identities of the people killed in both crashes will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office. Anyone with information related to either crash can contact the traffic investigations unit at 408-277-4654.
