San Jose DUI Checkpoint Going Up To Bring Drunk Drivers Down
The San Jose Police Department is setting up the DUI checkpoint Saturday at a location where crash statistics and DUI arrests are greatest.

SAN JOSE, CA -- The city police department will be conducting a DUI/Driver's License Checkpoint on Saturday night at an undisclosed location within the city limits.
The DUI checkpoint is scheduled between 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
DUI Checkpoints are placed in locations based on crash statistics and frequency of arrests involving driving under the influence. Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol or drug impairment as well as proper licensing.

The San Jose Police Department wants to remind drivers that: "DUI Doesn't Just Mean Booze."
If motorists takes prescription drugs, particularly those with a driving or operating machinery warning on the label, they may be impaired enough to get a DUI. Marijuana can also affect one's driving ability, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs.

The police department offers these reminders to ensure a safe night of fun that doesn't involve a DUI:
- Always use a designated sober driver by using a friend, ride-share, cab or public transportation.
- See someone who is clearly impaired try and drive? Take the keys and help them make other arrangements to find a sober way home.
- Call 911 to report drunk drivers.
- Hosting a party? Offer nonalcoholic drinks and monitor what guests are drinking and how they are getting home.
Motorists caught driving impaired and charged with DUI can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to amount to $13,500. This includes fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension, other expenses and possible jail time.
