San Jose Man Sentenced On Drug Dealing Plea, Conviction

The DOJ indicted in February 2017 the ring leader of the scheme to distribute methamphetamine.

SAN JOSE, CA -- A 36-year-old San Jose man was sentenced Monday to three years and nine months in prison for drug possession with the intent to distribute, United States Attorney David L. Anderson said.

Sophann Pin had pleaded guilty almost a year ago to the charges relating to methamphetamine distribution. The plea agreement describes three transaction in which Pin distributed drugs, admitting that on September 30, 2016 he agreed to meet two drug buyers in a parking lot on East Hamilton Avenue in Campbell. After arriving at the parking lot with about 543 grams of a substance containing methamphetamine, Pin exchanged the drugs for $3,500.

Further, Pin possessed one kilogram of methamphetamine he obtained from co-defendant Oscar Andrade, 32, from San Jose in November 2017. Pin also acknowledged that on January 19, 2017, he obtained two kilograms of methamphetamine from co-defendant Christian Urena, 32, of San Jose, with the intention of selling the methamphetamine to another person.

A federal grand jury indicted Pin in February 2017, charging him with two counts of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute methamphetamine. Pin pleaded guilty to one count of possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine. The remaining counts were dismissed.

In addition to the prison term, Judge Edward J. Davila also sentenced Pin to serve three years of supervised release to begin after his prison term has been served.

Co-defendants Andrade and Urena also pleaded guilty to their respective roles in the scheme. On January 14, 2019, the judge sentenced Andrade to 13 years, four months in prison and five years of supervised release for his role. On March 4, Davila sentenced Urena to four years, two months in prison and three years of supervised release for his role.
