South Bay Boy Fatally Struck By SUV: Cops

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — A boy struck by an SUV Friday morning near an elementary school in Campbell has died, police said.

The collision was reported at 8:03 a.m. on Castlemont Avenue near Castlemont Elementary School.

The SUV's driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with investigators, according to police.

The boy was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, police said.

A preliminary investigation determined the child was in the crosswalk with a woman when they were hit, police said. The woman was also transported to the hospital with moderate non-life-threatening injuries.

The fatal collision is the 47th on San Jose city streets so far in 2022, police said.
