South Bay Crash Kills 1

The victim of an Oct. 24 Highway 17 crash died of her injuries Wednesday at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, according to the CHP.

SAN JOSÉ, CA — A woman died Wednesday from injuries suffered in a fiery crash earlier in the week, the California Highway Patrol said.

Officers at around 11 p.m. Oct. 24 responded to Highway 17 north of Blossom Hill Road on the report of a collision on the southbound lanes, the CHP said.

Officers determined that a 2017 Ford E450 was traveling southbound in the No. 2 lane when the driver made an unsafe lane change and collided with the left rear of a 2013 Toyota Prius traveling in front of the Ford, the CHP said.

The Ford then entered the No. 1 lane and lost control, veering to the right and crossing all lanes before colliding with multiple trees on the right shoulder, the CHP said.

A passenger of the Ford who was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center with major injuries succumbed to her injuries, and was pronounced dead while still at the hospital, the CHP said.

There were no signs of impairment.

The crash is still under investigation, the CHP said.
