South Bay Crash Kills Pedestrian

The crash involved two vehicles, according to police. The victim was pronounced dead the scene.

SAN JOSÉ, CA — A pedestrian was killed Saturday night in a South Bay crash Saturday night that involved two vehicles, the San José Police Department said.

Officers at around 8:45 p.m. responded to area of Santa Teresa Boulevard and Kiowa Circle on the report of a traffic collision involving two vehicles and a pedestrian, police said.

Officers determined a man was driving a 1997 Nissan sports utility vehicle traveling westbound on Santa Teresa Boulevard in the number three lane when it struck the pedestrian, police said.

The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk when he was crossing Santa Teresa Boulevard in a northbound direction, police said.

After the collision, the pedestrian was struck by a second vehicle, believed to be a Chevrolet truck, that was traveling westbound on Santa Teresa Boulevard in the number two lane, police said.

The truck fled the scene and was not located, police said.

The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

The pedestrian sustained major injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.

This is San José’s 45th fatal collision and the 47th traffic death of 2022. This is also the 25th pedestrian fatality of the year.
