South Bay High School Ref Suspected Of Sexually Assaulting 16-Year-Old

SAN JOSÉ, CA — A South Bay high school referee was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl, the San José Police Department said.
Darwin Tengco, 46 of San José, was booked into the Santa Clara Main Jail after self-surrendering to authorities Sept. 1, police said.
Tengco was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault of a victim under 18 years old in connection with an incident the victim alleges occurred earlier this year, police said.

Tengco’s arrest culminated an investigation that began Aug. 15, when a student at Independence High School reported that a boys volleyball referee had sexually assaulted her after school in April.
The San José Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC)/ Child Exploitation Detail (CED) Task Force conducted the investigation.

ICAC Detectives submitted the case to the Santa Clara District Attorney’s Office and an arrest warrant was obtained for sexual assault of a minor under 18 years old.
