South Bay Man Accused Of Pointing Gun At Juveniles

SAN JOSÉ, CA — A South Bay man accused of pointing a gun on three juveniles earlier this year was arrested last week, San José police said.

Sumeet Khaira, 20 of San José, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and brandishing a firearm and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail, police said.

At around 7:15 p.m. Sept. 23, three juveniles between the ages of 11 and 13 were walking on McLaughlin Avenue when they were approached by a man in a vehicle later identified as Khaira, police said.

Khaira allegedly made verbal comments at the trio of juveniles and pointed a handgun with a high-capacity magazine at the victims during the exchange, police said.

The suspect then sped away and the victims called 911 to report the incident, police said.

Newly installed automated license plate reader cameras that helped identify Khaira as the suspect, according to police.

The firearm used in this incident and an illegal high-capacity magazine were in his vehicle at the time of the arrest.
