Stolen Vehicle Pursuit Leads To 1 Arrest, 1 Bystander Hurt: SCC

One man was arrested when Santa Clara County Sheriff's deputies discovered a stolen vehicle, which led to a high-speed pursuit.

SAN JOSE, CA — A man accused of possessing a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest was taken into custody late Wednesday night when deputies located an occupied stolen vehicle in the area of Senter and Tully roads in San Jose, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department reported Thursday.

Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, which led to a pursuit on the 11:52 p.m. call. The suspect vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed and also drove through several red lights, putting the public at risk.

The suspect vehicle eventually stopped near the area of De Rose Way and Southwest Expressway in San Jose. The male suspect was identified as 18-year-old Anthony Zavala, who was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on several charges including felony evading, stolen vehicle, resisting/delaying arrest and possession of stolen property.

Zavala was also on probation for burglary, auto theft, petty theft, possession and sales of a controlled substance.

A 14-year old female suspect was cited for fleeing the scene and released to her custodial
guardian.

Deputies had set up a perimeter, searched the area and were unable to locate the third suspect, who was described as a male with an Afro hairstyle, thin build, who was wearing dark clothing.

A bystander was injured during the incident and transported to a local area hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

During their investigation, deputies located an air soft pistol, a shaved key and a large quantity of stolen driver’s licenses, passports, identification cards and credit cards in the suspect’s vehicle.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.
