The Mercury News and TMZ later reported that the man who was shot and wounded was the stepfather of the man charged with molesting a close relative of Velasquez.

Velasquez's relative accused the man, identified as Harry Eugene Goularte, 43, of molestation at a home day care in San Martin, The Mercury News reported. Goularte lives at the home and the day care is run by his mother, the newspaper reported. Goularte was reportedly charged with a felony count of a lewd and lascivious act with a child under 14.

On Monday afternoon, Velasquez followed a pickup truck Goularte was riding in from the San Martin home through Morgan Hill, authorities said in court documents. Velasquez shot at Goularte near Butterfield Boulevard and Cochrane Road In Morgan Hill, continued pursuing the vehicle in his own truck, ramming it and firing off several more rounds with a .40 caliber pistol, court documents said. Goularte’s stepfather suffered gunshot wounds to his arm and chest.

Online court records obtained by Patch showed Goularte was held Friday in a South County felony case. A plea hearing was scheduled for April 13. Further details weren't publicly available.

TMZ reported he was released from custody after a Friday arraignment hearing.

Morgan Hill is a city in Santa Clara County, about 19 miles southeast of San Jose. Velasquez trained at American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose.

Born in Salinas and raised in Yuma, Arizona, Velasquez last fought in 2019 in a loss against now-reigning UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. He finished his UFC career with a record of 14-3, with 12 knockouts.

Velasquez won his first title fight in 2010, knocking out Brock Lesnar. After losing the heavyweight belt in 2011 to Junior Dos Santos, Velasquez reclaimed the heavyweight belt in a 2012 rematch with Dos Santos. Velasquez successfully defended his title in 2013 against Antonio Silva, then again that same year in a third bout against Dos Santos.

In 2015, he lost the heavyweight belt to Fabricio Werdum. He retired four years later and has since performed in WWE, stepping into the ring with Lesnar in a quasi-rematch.

Correction: A previous version of this report said Harry Eugene Goularte was shot. Goularte's stepfather was the person reportedly shot.
