Toddler, Grandma Survive South Bay Hit-And-Run Crash: VIDEO

SAN JOSÉ, CA — Authorities are seeking the public’s help investigating a South Bay hit-and-run crash earlier this week that injured a toddler and an elderly woman who was pushing her 3-year-old’s grandchild’s stroller, San José police said.

The grandmother, who is 68 according to an NBC Bay Area report, and the toddler, both suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The suspect vehicle is described as a dark gray four-door hatchback, possibly a 2012 Mazda3, police said. It may have damage to the front driver's side of the vehicle.

Police posted video of the crash showing the woman bursting into a sprint after she realized the vehicle did not appear to be slowing down as it approached the intersection, possibly avoiding catastrophe. The woman and her grandchild are nevertheless seen being knocked to the ground.

Officers at around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday responded to the area of Sierra Road and Mauna Kea Lane on the report of a collision involving a vehicle and two pedestrians, police said.

The suspect vehicle was traveling westbound on Sierra Road “at a high rate of speed” when the driver failed to yield to the woman pushing the toddler’s stroller while walking westbound in a marked crosswalk.

The grandmother initially declined medical transport but was later admitted to a local hospital, police said.
