Wells Fargo Donated $1.83 Mill. To Santa Clara County Nonprofits

The hefty contributions has landed the distinction the bank a No. 1 ranking by the United Way for its workplace giving campaign.

SAN JOSE, CA -- Wells Fargo announced this week the financial services company donated more than $23 million through 899 grants to local nonprofits, schools and community organizations in 2018 to help the communities and people in need in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The counties that stand to benefit include Santa Clara and San Mateo, along with Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Solano and Sonoma.

Wells Fargo donated $1.83 million to 84 nonprofits in Santa Clara County including:

  • $541,952 for education, including K-12
  • $179,500 for human and social services
  • $10,500 for civic projects
  • $12,500 for arts and culture
  • $1,087,800 for community development

The agency recipients were undisclosed by the banking company.

Wells Fargo’s philanthropic contributions build on a long history of collaboration with local nonprofits and community leaders to make a positive impact by addressing urgent community issues such as affordable housing, small business growth, access to education and sustainability.

When combined with the $12.9 million donated by the company’s San Francisco Bay Area team members, local nonprofits received a total of nearly $36 million from Wells Fargo and its team members in 2018.

“Across our community, many residents are working hard to make ends meet,” said Jim Foley, executive vice president and president of the Pacific North region for Wells Fargo. “Here in the Bay Area, we want to help people find a stable place to live, help small business owners expand and help young people gain a quality education that prepares them for the workforce.

United Way Worldwide recently recognized Wells Fargo for having the No. 1 workplace giving campaign in the United States for the 10th consecutive year.
