Woman Allegedly Robbed At Gunpoint Near Santa Clara University

A woman on her way to a social near Santa Clara University was held at gunpoint and robbed of her purse on Saturday night, police said.

SANTA CLARA - A woman on her way to a social near Santa Clara University was held at gunpoint and robbed of her purse on Saturday night, police said.

The victim was headed to the gathering in the 400 block of Lafayette Street, about a block south of the campus, where she parked her car on Poplar Street around 9:45 p.m., according to police.

She saw two men nearby leave their vehicle, which was also parked on Poplar Street, police said.

The two men grabbed the woman from behind, held her arms behind her back and used force to take her purse, which was slung across her chest, police said.

One of the suspects placed a handgun on the right side of her head, according to police.

The suspects then returned to their car, described as a medium-sized SUV, and fled the scene, police said.
