Free Legal Help For Hayward Residents Facing Eviction

Here's how tenants can access help online, by phone or via email.

HAYWARD, CA — Low-income Hayward tenants facing eviction may receive free legal help from a community group after an agreement between the city and that group, city officials said.

Oakland-based Centro Legal de la Raza will provide the service as evictions spike following the end of Alameda County's eviction moratorium.

Centro Legal and the city of Hayward each signed a contract earlier this month to provide the service.

City officials signed the contract because not only have evictions increased, but landlords often have lawyers on their side, while renters do not.

Tenants with questions or who might be facing eviction are urged to go to the Alameda County Housing Secure website.
