An additional 15 units are for veterans through the VASH voucher program, and another 10 units for people with disabilities through the Mainstream voucher project.
The site was acquired from Caltrans in partnership with the Housing Authority of the County of Alameda (HACA) using the Surplus Lands Act, a state law that requires public agencies to offer their surplus lands to public agencies and their partners to create housing for low-income Californians.
Eden donated an adjacent parcel to the Hayward Area Recreation District (HARD) for the creation of a pocket park.
Eden also recently donated an adjacent three-acre parcel to the Sogorea Te’ Land Trust, an urban Indigenous women-led land trust. The Land Trust will restore the creek land and is supported by a perpetual endowment dedicated to the ongoing care and preservation of the site.
The project was funded by:
- The County of Alameda
- Housing Authority of the County of Alameda
- California Department of Housing and Community Development
- National Equity Fund
- Silicon Valley Bank
- Regional Center of The East Bay and Department of Developmental Services
- Housing Trust Silicon Valley
