Former Teacher Sentenced to Three Years in Jail for Sexual Relationship with Student

Brandon James Lee Hitchcock, 32, of Lakewood, pleaded no contest on Nov. 21 to two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with the student.

NORWALK, CA - A former teacher and soccer coach at Downey High School was sentenced Monday to three years in county jail after admitting to a sexual relationship with a female student.

Brandon James Lee Hitchcock, 32, of Lakewood, pleaded no contest on Nov. 21 to two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with the student. Thirteen other felony counts were dismissed in exchange for his plea.

Hitchcock was ordered to stay away from the student, but was not required to register as a sex offender.

He is scheduled to surrender to authorities on April 1 to begin serving his time, District Attorney's Office spokesman Greg Risling said.

The crimes occurred between March 1 and Oct. 10, 2014, when Hitchcock was teaching and coaching at the school. The school's staff was alerted to the relationship and alerted law enforcement.
