The plaza could host up to 15 food trucks, offer shaded seating and enhanced lighting, and is currently recruiting vendors to bring a wide mix of cuisines to this long-anticipated local hangout spot.
   

2. What is next for the Sunrise Mall in Citrus Heights in the new year? (cbsnews.com) — Redevelopment of Sunrise Mall remains a major open question for Citrus Heights, with city leaders sticking to the Sunrise Tomorrow Plan adopted in 2021 while working through infrastructure challenges. Residents are hoping for family-friendly green space, mixed-use development, and a stronger community hub, and officials say visible changes could start in the first half of this year.
   

3. Will she or won't she? Ashby announces her answer to the Congress question (sacbee.com) — Citrus Heights is now part of a newly redrawn 6th Congressional District that State Sen. Angelique Ashby has decided not to run for, despite speculation she could be a strong contender. Instead, she’ll seek reelection to the State Senate, saying she can better serve the region from Sacramento than in what she calls an increasingly dysfunctional Congress.

West Sacramento Mayor Martha Guerrero Launches Bid for Open CA-06 Seat (davisvanguard.org) — Citrus Heights voters are now part of a competitive, Democrat-leaning 6th Congressional District where West Sacramento Mayor Martha Guerrero has launched a campaign focused on working families and opposing Trump-aligned Republicans. The race will help decide who represents Citrus Heights in Washington after the seat opened when Rep. Ami Bera shifted to a different district.
