Suspected Burglar Breaks into Car and Multiple Homes Before Arrest

Citrus Heights Police officials said suspected burglar Daniel Travis Tinney managed to break into three Citrus Heights homes and steal a car before finally being apprehended less than a mile from the scene of his initial crime.

According to police reports, the mayhem began around 8:30 p.m. Friday when officers responded to a report of someone attempting to rob a home on the 8400 block of Pearl Way. Officers received word from the homeowner that she had discovered someone inside her home. That someone would turn out to be 23-year-old Tinney of Fair Oaks, and he wouldn't be staying long after being discovered. According to police, upon his discovery, Tinney fled in a vehicle that would later be confirmed stolen by CHPD officials.

Police report that witnesses observed Tinney crash the stolen vehicle into a telephone pole at the intersection of Twin Oaks Avenue and Mariposa Avenue where he would proceed to flee on foot into a nearby residential area.

It was at this time officers from Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, Roseville Police, Placer County Sheriff’s Department, and California Highway Patrol arrived on scene to assist with a perimeter to contain Tinney.

It would only be a short time later when a resident on the 7600 block of Roberts Lane would report Tinney having just forcibly entered his home. According to the report, Tinney threatened to shoot the resident and anyone else inside the home. Fleeing the home, the resident managed to escape Tinney, who, according to a police report, was still inside the home with the resident's elderly parents.

Tinney would later be spotted running toward Twin Oaks Avenue. According to police, Tinney simply left the Roberts Lane home where it was reported later that the residents were not injured. It was later discovered the gun Tinney was using to threaten the Roberts Lane residents was in fact a replica, said Citrus Height Police Lt. Gary Hendricks.

Police say, Tinney continued northbound and was seen by the helicopter entering an enclosed patio at a 7600 block Twin Oaks Avenue home. Two people, who hid inside a locked bathroom, according to police, occupied the home at the time.

According to a report, several announcements were made over a loud speaker for Tinney to surrender, which he would eventually do. Spotting Tinney exiting the patio, officers moved in on the suspect and took him into custody without incident. Police said, the occupants of the home were not injured and there were no additional suspects.

The report states that Tinney was booked into the Sacramento County Jail for the charges of burglary, home invasion robbery, stealing a vehicle, and attempted vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, and possession of controlled substances. His bail has been set at $210,000.
