CLAREMONT, CA — The Nativity scene at Claremont United Methodist typically goes beyond the standard depiction of Jesus Christ's birth, according to a report from the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.

The church has used the display over the last decade as a chance to highlight social justice issues, from mass incarceration to racial equity. For this year's Nativity scene, the church has decided to draw attention to the dangers of climate change, the Daily Bulletin reported.

Mary, Joseph and the infant Jesus are in the foreground of the display and behind them is a picture of chimneys spewing out dark smoke, according to the paper. The display also includes a message, "creation in peril."
