CalFresh To Flow Again, Contra Costa County Halts Plan for Emergency Debit Cards

Contra Costa County halts plan for emergency debit cards as California releases November CalFresh benefits covering Nov. 1-10.

CONCORD, CA —Contra Costa County has halted the plan to make $21 million in emergency funds available for the county's food assistance recipients.

That means holding back debit cards the county planned to make available this week to more than 107,000 county residents who receive CalFresh food assistance benefits.

The county decided to hold back the funds after a court ordered the White House to restore food assistance benefits, at the federal level known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.
