Trends come and go, but teens value the chance to express themselves and feel confident.
They now spend hundreds—sometimes thousands—on prom with parents still contributing a share. Families often face costs for attire, tickets, transportation and photos—making free or low-cost prom programs an important support for parents.

They help ensure that no student skips prom due to cost, while also encouraging reuse and sustainability.
Early proms until recently were more often than not sober, afternoon events held in school gymnasiums or libraries—not glamorous dances.
Prom didn’t become a big deal until the 1950s. After World War II, the events grew more elaborate as teen culture evolved. Over-the-top promposals arrive in the 2000s, fueled by social media.
Libraries have become prom heroes around the country hosting pop-up prom shops, styling days, and confidence workshops, making prom more accessible for everyone.
In Concord, students can choose one complete outfit per teen from a wide selection of gently used and new-with-tags items, including formal dresses, pants, button-down shirts, suits, ties and accessories.
No appointment is required, and all items are available at no cost while supplies last.
