Pedestrian Struck, Killed On Highway 242 Near Concord

The fatal crash happened on southbound SR-242 near Clayton Road, the California Highway Patrol said.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car late Thursday night on state Highway 242 near Concord, the California Highway Patrol said.

Contra Costa CHP officers were notified at 11:30 p.m. Thursday about the collision on southbound Highway 242, south of Clayton Road, involving a female pedestrian and a gray Lexus IS-250 sedan.

At the time of the crash, a female pedestrian was in the lanes of traffic of southbound SR-242, the CHP said. The Lexus was traveling southbound and struck her.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was not available from the Contra Costa County coroner's office Friday afternoon, and investigators did not say why she was in the highway lanes.

The Lexus driver was not injured in the crash but the a passenger in the Lexus suffered minor injuries.
