• Avenue of Heroes: Paul B. Austin (coronadotimes.com) — Coronado’s Avenue of Heroes program is honoring Navy Captain Paul B. Austin while highlighting the city’s deep military roots along Third and Fourth streets to NAS North Island. Sponsored by the City of Coronado and local volunteers, the banner program has recognized hundreds of service members and grew from a spontaneous community tribute that led to the official “Coronado Avenue of Heroes” designation. 
• Jennifer Welshons shares the tale of her dashing dog in 'Dexter the Dachshund' (coronadotimes.com) — A Coronado-born author has turned her one-eyed dachshund Dexter into a children’s book, complete with local nods to Dog Beach, the village, and Candy Cane Lane. Jennifer and her daughter Shelby debuted “Dexter the Dachshund” at her parents’ Coronado home, where residents can still stop by Candy Cane Lane to see Dexter’s wooden cutout and Santa’s VW sleigh and snap photos.
