Thursday is a busy day if you want to register your thoughts on two big public issues:
Coronado's school board takes up the district's annual budget at 4:30 p.m. at the district offices. Officials have projected a shortfall in the coming school year, with a budget of $29.2 million, but revenues that come up $3.6 million short. Talks will continue through June, when the budget is due to be finalized.
The discussion has been fraught for several years because of the state's fiscal woes, but the district recently averted layoffs and preserved a cherished program at Silver Strand Elementary School. A study group focusing solely on the budget will convene at 3:45 p.m.
For boating aficionados, the city will host a 6 p.m. workshop at the council chambers in City Hall on the reconstruction of a nearby dock at Glorietta Bay. City staff will preview three options for the proposed $3 million project; they offer between 34 and 41 boat slips depending on the choice.
