3 Upgraded Apple Products: Just The Facts

Throw away the clutter. Here are the highlights of the new iPhone, iPad and Apple TV.

Apple executives unveiled new iPhones, iPads and Apple TVs Wednesday that focus on photos, video and a new streaming-television experience.

Here is a quick rundown of the new features in each device.

iPhone

The new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus come with some impressive credentials: The powerful rear camera will be able to take 12-megapixel-resolution photos, up from the eight megapixels of the current cameras. For video, it will be able to shoot in ultra-high resolution 4K.

The front-facing “selfie” camera will be able to take five-megapixel-resolution photos, up from 1.2 in the current model. It will also get its own flash for better-lit selfies.

The phones will also be equipped with a new technology Apple is calling “3D Touch,” which uses pressure sensors to detect how hard a user is touching the screen to perform different actions such as previewing emails and launching the front camera from the camera icon.

The phones will be made out of a special aluminum that will make them more durable and prevent them from bending in their owners’ poockets.

The phones will cost $199 up to $499, depending on the model and amount of storage. They will be available for preorder on Saturday and will be in stores Sept. 25.

iPad

Apple announced iPad Pro, which will essentially be a bigger, more powerful version of the current iPads.

The screen will be more than three inches bigger than the current models. It will have four speakers on each corner that change their output based on how you are holding it.

In a new twist, Apple introduced its own stylus called “Apple Pencil” that can detect how hard you’re pressing and at what angle.

Apple says the iPad Pros run 1.8 times faster than current iPads and faster than 80 percent of portable PCs shipped in the last 12 months.

They will be available in November and start at $799.

Apple TVs

Apple overhauled its video player to add Siri voice control and a redesigned remote.

With Siri, you can use your voice to search through apps like Netflix and Hulu or use playback controls like, “Skip ahead seven minutes” or, “What did she just say?”

The remote has a touchpad to swipe through movie selections and scroll ahead and backwards during a show.

Apple TV will also have its own App Store. The company showed off multi-player games, real estate apps and online shopping on the big screen during its demo.
