SUNNYVALE, CA -- Caltrain is hosting a community meeting Thursday evening in Sunnyvale to discuss ongoing plans to electrify the Caltrain corridor from San Francisco to San Jose.

The transit agency is building a "paralleling station" in the parking lot of its Sunnyvale station at 121 W. Evelyn Ave. to power the trains. Construction is scheduled to start in spring as part of the Caltrain Modernization Program.

The nearly $2 billion undertaking began about five years ago and intends to replace the agency's diesel-powered trains, improve system performance with more frequent service and address long-term environmental concerns.
