False Reports Of Shooter Prompts School Lockdown In Cupertino

Reports of an active shooter rattled a Cupertino high school campus Monday, prompting a lockdown and canceled classes.

CUPERTINO, CA — False reports of an active shooter at a Cupertino high school prompted a lockdown and a canceled school day Monday, according to the authorities.

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said Monta Vista High School initiated a lockdown shortly before 10 a.m. as deputies investigated reports of a shooter that were later ruled unfounded. Law enforcement searched the school and cleared the campus of threats.

The sheriff's office said school leaders opted to release students and staff for the day and canceled all extracurricular activities. All classes were scheduled to resume Tuesday.
