Large Power Outages Impact Almost 5,000 Cupertino Households

Howling winds may have taken out electricity for almost 5,000 households west of Cupertino and another 665 alongside Saratoga and Los Gatos.

CUPERTINO, CA -- Pacific Gas & Electric reported Wednesday two large power outages across a huge swath west of Cupertino, affecting 3,849 households and 1,128 in another region at one point. As of 10 p.m., that number totaled 853, the utility company indicated.

One area outage spanned from Stevens Creek County Park to the north due southwest to the Saratoga Gap continuing south beyond Sanborn County Park. The other hovered over a section near the Rancho San Antonio Open Space.

Also reported at 2:30 p.m., a power outage cut electricity to 284 households in Saratoga. Yet another was announced over an hour later, with 381 households without power east of Los Gatos south of Blossom Hill Road.

The causes are under investigation.

The National Weather Service had predicted a wind advisory with gusts up to 50 mph in the South Bay during the brunt of this week's series of storms.
