Pedestrian Struck By VTA Train In North San Jose
BREAKING: The incident involving a southbound VTA light-rail train happened at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

SANTA CLARA VALLEY, CA — A pedestrian was hospitalized after a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority light-rail train struck him this evening in North San Jose, according to a VTA spokeswoman. The incident occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. Thursday near North First Street and Component Drives, VTA spokeswoman Linh Hoang said.
A southbound light rail train carrying between 25 and 30 passengers struck the man, according to Hoang. A passenger onboard complained of pain and he was also taken to a hospital. Information about the extent of both men's injuries was not immediately available.
Light-rail service was initially impacted, however, the area has since been cleared and both the southbound and northbound tracks are open and light-rail service has resumed, Hoang said.

Today's incident marks the second time this week a person has been struck by a VTA light-rail train.
On Tuesday evening around 5:45 p.m., a northbound light-rail train fatally struck San Jose resident Dieu Vuong, 78, near North First and Rosemary streets.
