PETALUMA, CA -- A man who was riding his bicycle in the city mid-day on Monday has succumbed to injuries he suffered when he crashed his bike, police say.
Just before 1:30 p.m. on Monday May 1, the Petaluma Fire Dept. and Petaluma Police Dept. responded to a bicycle collision at the intersection of B Street and El Rose Drive. On scene, authorities say a 69 year old male was found within the intersection on the ground with significant trauma to his head and face. Police say that a witness to the collision told authorities the bicyclist was eastbound on B Street approaching El Rose Drive and appeared to be traveling at 30-35 MPH down the hill of B Street. As the bicyclist approached the intersection, the witness said he appeared to begin losing control of his mountain bike and after passing through the limit line of the intersection went over the handlebars of his bicycle landing face first on the ground.
"There does not appear to be any other vehicle which played a part in this collision nor did there appear to be any conditions on the roadway that would have contributed to this collision," Petaluma police said in a statement.
