Santa Clara Sheriff Pushes For Round-The-Clock Child Care

SAN JOSE, CA — Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith is asking for round-the-clock child care for her deputies, according to a report. She says that when new deputies graduate they often have to work the graveyard shift, and they lose out on quality applicants who can’t find child care to cover the unusual hours.

She says it could be a good recruiting tool for people who would normally be driven away by the hours. Smith also says that if the plan works, the county could expand it into other places like Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. Read the full story here.
