South Bay Parolee Arrested In Connection With Whole Foods Disturbance

Luis Enrique Cruz, 32, of Mountain View, was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats and assault among other charges, police said.

PALO ALTO, CA — A man on parole was arrested Wednesday in Palo Alto after he reportedly threatened a grocery store employee, police said.

Luis Enrique Cruz, 32, of Mountain View, was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats, assault, resisting arrest and on a parole violation, according to the Palo Alto Police Department.

On Wednesday at 12:48 p.m., police received a call from the Whole Foods Market at 774 Emerson Street reporting a disturbance in progress.

Police said a man had threatened an employee at the store and threw a punch him.

The suspect, later identified as Cruz, fled the scene before officers arrived, but he was located in the area of High Street and Channing Avenue.

Police said Cruz ran from officers when they tried to take him into custody.

Officers were ultimately able to detain Cruz on a bike path near the rear of Palo Alto High School.
There were no reports of injuries during the arrest.
