Thank You To the Person Who Found My Jacket & Scarf!

I had just rapidly packed up my things after several hours of work (and a coffee and a breakfast burrito) at .

I snapped my laptop shut and crammed it into my backpack along with my jacket and other supplies. I grabbed my empty dishes and tossed them into the bin as I rushed out the door and into the blustery winds. I unlocked my bike and then pedaled three blocks toward , where I met , Davis Patch’s excellent intern.

Jenah and I had just walked across the street to educate a few businesses about the value of , when she informed me that my backpack was wide open. I immediately looked for myself and noticed that the bag was suspiciously empty.

My computer was still there (whew!), along with a few other things, but my jacket, which took up the bulk of the space, was not.

“Hold on!” I told Jenah. “I’ll be right back.”

I unlocked my bike and jammed back toward , retracing my path. I was staring off in the distance as I turned the corner onto B Street, at which point my tire struck the curb and my bike slid out from under me, banging my knee against the concrete. My first wreck as a Davis Patch editor. 

I shook it off (and looked around to see if anybody saw it) and then continued my ride to Delta. No luck.

I rode much slower on the way back toward , in part because of my hobbled knee. As I rode down second street, just a half a block from my destination, I noticed something in my periphery, near the sidewalk (away from where I had ridden my bike).

I swung back around to inspect, at which point I noticed my jacket tied to a bike lock by my scarf, which I didn’t even realize I had lost. It was an exciting moment.
